Before you get on my case for posting episode five recap before the other four, let me type out my case...
Last night while I was searching for a new show to indulge in, I came across this show. A close friend of mine recommended it to me a few years back but I never got into it because I don't like dramas. Unfortunately for me, the first episode isn't available on Netflix but I picked up from where I could.
Mary is a successful, black woman who isn't in a healthy relationship. Mary finds out that she has been seeing and sleeping with a married man. Though Mary did try to end it. I'll give her props for that. Problem is he hit her with "I love you and want to marry you" line and the sex was pretty good. Secondly, she is emotionally and financially supporting everyone. Her (drug addicted) brother and kids live in her parents house. Her mother has lupus and doesn't like her son's girlfriend. Lastly, her pops is getting eyes from all the single women. Work is crazy as a newstation face that works late and Mary has a producer who doesn't have a complete moral compass. When I see more of her friends, I'll dish on that but so far, one has attempted suicide, the other is gay, and one is dating a married man.
Whew! That is at straightforward as I can get with the past episodes.
In this particular episode Mary's married boyfriend tells her about how his wife tried to give him lazy head. I don't know why he thought that was smart to do but it's Mary's fault for even asking. She gets upset and goes on a date that was set up through a dating site by her producer. Over at her parents house, mama says her diamond bracelet is missing and blames her son's baby mama. I suspect that she is hiding it. She keeps smirking.
On her date, Mary attempts to not work on her family and work drama but can't seem to get off the phone. He obviously doesn't handle it well and leaves her for the night. Mary isn't done with awkward moments. At a luncheon, Mary is seated at the financial advisor table that happened to be graced by the only Avery Daniels, the wife to the man she is sleeping with. Avery gets a chance to put Mary on the hot seat by bringing up that her husband is cheating on her, right before Mary has to step up and make a speech to young girls. Mary makes a speech that takes a dig at Avery's number one spot.
Paul Patterson, confronts his son on the missing bracelet and insists on Patrick taking a drug test. Patrick opens up to his dad about his recent tumble off the wheel. How does anyone not know that mama has the bracelet? When Avery mentioned couples counseling, I thought she was lying but here is Avery and Andre discussing their lack of attention for each other or is it that he was beneath her but she made the sacrifice into it.
Back on the do over date, Mary puts her phone and pays attention to the date. Mary puts it out there that she had an affair with a married men and learned a bit about relationships. At the house, Paul confronts his wife, Helen, on the now found bracelet and why she put the family through the hardship. After her date, Mary finds Andre at her place. He tells her, again, that he chooses her and has filed a divorce.
Don't fall in love with married men. They dangerous.
