Casino Royal (2006) Is An Experience

James Bond is a character that has been around longer than I have walked the earth. So, my admitting that in the year 2020, I decided to finally watch one of the movies from this fan favorite franchise. I wasn't planning to watch the movie until my friend found it on Netflix. Of course, I reluctantly agreed to watch the movie that she absolutely adores.

Casino Royal was widely hyped when it came out. I was just a teen, in the prime of not watching anything that people hyped up. As I sat to watch the first few minutes that resulted in a couple people getting killed, I couldn't help but think that I will need to pay attention to understand what is happening here. I watched as bodies are thrown about and explosives were deployed. There was a moment that I questioned if all the action was to distract me from the dialogue that was given. Going into this without any expectations other than the good vs bad concept, I guess I wasn't expecting things to go so quickly. It was certainly action packed. One hit after another.

Now, I'm a full believer that one must not go into watching a movie with high expectations. You must go in to enjoy the movie. I did my best but will admit that I had way too many questions on what was going on. Bond is certainly the type to sweep women off their feet with a beautiful car while he does his best to find the man that he needs to kill. I'm not mad at that. I was raised on action movies like Bad Boys and Terminator 2. This really had me wondering what the writers were thinking when it came to the dialogue. They certainly dropped the ball on that but with a man as sexy as Daniel Craig, I could see why they chose to let the man carry about as he did. Quite easy to fall for those blue eyes and tight bum. Shirtless or in a tux, I don't mind it at all.

I watched as Bond dealt with his boss not trusting him as he failed not to get into trouble and continuously leaving a trail of bodies all over the place. M played by the exceptional Judi Dench, did a great job of being a woman that is fed up with her employee doing as he wishes. We definitely needed more of her. However, I think her talent was not utilized enough here. Anyways, back to Bond. He gets his very own "Bond girl" for his new mission. His mission is winning a game of poker against the villain. Add some "witty banter" and Bond gets himself a girl that double crosses him, almost dies from poison, and kills the people that want to kill the villain. It is a good thing that I watched this in the comfort of my home rather than the public because I vocally questioned motives and actions of everyone. The one time I was on the edge of my seat was when Bond was naked and tortured. Daniel Craig certainly can act. I can't even imagine going through all that. What fell flat was the autracious montage of Bond and his new boo. He was ready to give up everything for a woman that wasn't even ready to move on from her boyfriend. What ever happened to checking on your partner? I got friends ready to look up a guy that I go on a date with and here Bond could just easily check on her background. The whole agency could.

Throughout everything, I actually thought that Bond would kill the girl that crossed him but no, he truly loved her and had to revenge her death. Bond's reason for the next movie is set up. My dear friend had to endure me questioning and laughing randomly at times. The best line was possibly about what Bond can do with his finger. I would like to know.

Maybe, I should do something like watch the older movies that star Sean Connery or something. I'm not sure if this was worth the time but I'm glad I knocked it out the way.
